Tom’s 2 Tips for the 2022 Grand National

As of writing this, the declarations aren’t out yet for the Grand National, but I have pretty good idea as to who will turn up for the big race at Aintree. For me, the profile of the Grand National winners is changing. I believe you need to look for a horse aged 8 or 9 and ideally has a weight that is 11st or under. For the 2022 national, I have two selections that I think could go well.

  1. Enjoy D’Allen (14/1) – You can currently get 14/1 on this Irish horse from Ciaran Murphy’s yard. JP McManus has recently purchased this horse which is very intriguing and is a big clue as they expect him to go very close in the National and this race has clearly been the plan for a while. He is an 8-year-old and only got 10st 10lbs but has form from last year’s Irish National, that ties him in with a few off these but is now much better off at the weights. He is proven to stay this extreme trip and is coming to the boil nicely and the trainer has had 2 winners form his last 4 runners, which is great to get in some form in the build-up to Aintree. He ticks a lot of boxes for me and looks a decent each way bet.
  2. Farclas (25/1) – He is currently best priced 25/1 right now which looks a steal of each way price. He is also an 8-year-old carrying 11st. Farclas finished 5th in the race last year but showed to stay fairly well and should get the trip better now being a year older as he will be stronger and more mature. Jack Kennedy rode him last year, showing they thought a lot of him. Only 6lbs higher in the ratings this time around, he has the experience over the fences now and looks to have been plotted for this by Gordon Elliot. I expect a better run this year and looks a solid each way selection.
